Description
A Magnificent Viennese Silver and Wood Torah Scroll Case, 1890-1910
Dimensions
Height: 66 cm; height including Torah finials: 80 cm.
Details
Of cylindrical form, opens on hinges in center, Decalogue decoration on either side of opening, s-form and button closure. Beautiful cast, repoussé and punched floral and foliage motifs, beadwork decoration throughout body. Six flowers hang from rings near top, a hand cut upper border is surmounted by a Torah crown finial. Supported on six elaborate feet, influenced by the early Art Nouveau movement. Top fitted with two Torah finials of architectural form with pendant bells.
