Wine Review by Daniel Rogov, The Well Known Israeli Wine and restaurant critic: Golan Heights Winery, Katzrin, 1996 (Advance Tastings): Complex and remarkably vibrant considering its youth, this superb red wine has an abundance of black cherry, black currant, prune and berry flavors and aromas, and even now shows hints of the chocolate and tobacco aromas and spicy flavors that it will develop as it ages. With excellent integration between the fruit and oak and with plenty of supple tannins, this full bodied wine is still tight and firm but even now shows a rich focused core of flavors that burst open on the palate. The wine can be drunk now but that would be a sin, for it is still in its infancy and will only start to blossom forth in three more years. Even then, the wine should continue to develop nicely in the bottle, attaining its peak only in another 10 - 12 years. The wine is scheduled for release in January, 2000. Because only about 12,000 bottles of the wine were made, my advice is to begin phoning your favorite wine stores now and placing orders well in advance. Score 97+.
