Biography
Igael Tumarkin, Painter and Sculptor. b. 1933, Dresden, Germany. Immigrated 1935. Studies: 1954 with Rudi Lehman, Ein Hod. Prizes: 1963 First Prize for Memoria of 'Choulikat';1968 Sandberg Prize, Israel Museum, Jerusalem; 1968 First Prize for Memorial to Sailors, Haifa; 1971 First Prize for Memorial for 'Holocaust and Resurrection', Tel Aviv; 1998 Awarded the Sussman Prize, Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, but cancelled, subsequently the Sussman Foundation awarded the prize directly to Tumarkin. 1955-57 Worked as stage-designer for the 'Berliner Ensemble' with Bertholdt Brecht. Outdoor Sculptures: Repertoire of over 100 including: 1966 'Peace Memorial', Hebron Road, Jerusalem; 1971 'Homage to Jerusalem', Givat Shapira; 1973 'Challenge to the Sun', Ramot Alon, Jerusalem; 1986 'Chichen Itzma', Kiriat Menahem, Jerusalem; 1986 Pisgat Zeev, Jerusalem; 1992 'Jerusalem - Three Faiths', Mount Scopus, Jerusalem. 2000 sculptures - Abu Nabut Garden, Jaffa.(The Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Web Site).
