Biography
Shmuel Levy (Ophel). b. 1884, Sofia, Bulgaria. Immigrated 1906, with Boris Schatz. Studies: 1901-05 Sofia Art Academy; 1906 Bezalel, Jerusalem, in the first student intake; 1913 Paris Academy, participating in Orientalist Exhibition. Teaching: Organised the first choir at Bezalel; 1919-49 Hebrew Gymnasium, Hebrew Teachers College, Lemel School, all Jerusalem, painting. 1905 Founded and headed Zionist Tourist Association, Sofia. 1921 Participated in the first Davids Tower international art exhibition. Died 1966, Jerusalem.
