Notes: “The boat is among the most important elements in the work of Naftali Bezem throughout the years. The boat representation is utilized in his work for historical, personal and national documentation. The boat is a changing object – at times it turns into a flying craft or an automobile and is functional and metaphorical at the same time.” “… the boat is a drawn representation which became a real scale sculpture in Bezem’s work. There are two boat sculptures: one from 1972 which is gone and the current one on which he toiled until 2012. The first boat was in fact an actual boat which sailed the Yarkon river and is documented in writing and photographs (see p.173). On the wood boat stood a sculpture of a captain looking ahead in the artist’s likeless.” from “Naftali Bezem – Toing and Froing”, Ruth Ofek, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, 2012, pp. 167-168.
