The clock with face ornately decorated with scrolls in relief and with large, enamel painted, Roman numerals beneath an applied plate of open work depicting putties among scrolls. Housed in a rectangular case with a hinged, glass door and glass sides. The case decorated throughout with rouge tortoiseshell veneer. Sculptural sphynxes in ormolu mounted on the four upper corners of the case. Set on four elaborate ormolu supports designed as scrolls, beneath a pair of sculptural sphynxes on each side. Topped by a trapezoid finial decorated with ormolu mounts and terminating in a sculptural depiction of putty resting on an orb. The clock includes a console, similarly decorated with rouge tortoiseshell veneer and brass inlay and is raised on four downward spiral supports. Signed Balthazar Martinot on the mechanism.
