Biography
Michonze was one of the prominent members of humanistic branch of the 'Ecole de Paris' Movement, who believed that the figure should be the major subject of art and opposed the abstract movements. He was born in Romania in 1902. He moved to Paris in 1922. In 1924 he moved in the circles of the surrealist poets and painters but never adopted their artistic views. His paintings are riddles, in his imagination he painted the figures of folk tails and parables, but often their real meaning remains uncertain to the viewer. He died in Paris in 1982.(The Jewish Art, Cecil Roth (Ed.), Masada Tel-Aviv, p.600).
